Description:
In Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, visitors come face to face with artifacts recovered from the debris field surrounding the wreck of the Titanic, which lies two and one half miles below the surface of the North Atlantic. While preserving the memories of Titanic’s 2,200 passengers and crew, these artifacts, respectfully selected and painstakingly conserved, act as the inspiration for the exhibition, teaching visitors the science and history behind Titanic’s conception, construction and discovery.
Allowing recovered artifacts to tell the story, Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition guides visitors through a chronological journey of the RMS Titanic, leading them from the construction yards where the Ship was conceived and built to the gangway of Titanic herself, where they set sail on her fateful maiden voyage. Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition places visitors in the experience; they feel the thrill as the Ship takes shape, walk a first-class hallway and into a third-class cabin, and meet Titanic’s passengers and crew. They wander the lavish first-class public rooms as they feel the temperature drop. Soon they are touching the iceberg that doomed the Ship, while looking at a recreation of the night sky as it was on the night of April 14, 1912.
In the Memorial Room, visitors learn about the aftermath of the Titanic disaster, the relief funds, and the efforts to find loved ones. At each venue visitors will read about Titanic passengers from their region. The Discovery and Preservation Gallery describes Titanic’s final resting place beneath the surface of the North Atlantic. Here visitors learn about the sophisticated methods employed to dive to and monitor Titanic’s wreck site, as well as the science behind the recovering and conserving of the priceless artifacts.
